Project Hope Humane Society is a no-kill shelter.  The mission of Project Hope is to contain the homeless animal population through spaying and neutering rather than euthanasia.  Of course, that can be quite an expensive undertaking.  As a result of our no-kill policy, we have several special needs pets that would have been put to sleep at a "typical" shelter.  We also like to have the animals spayed or neutered before they go to their forever homes.

P.O. Box 125
1698 West 10th Street
Metropolis IL 62960

Hours of Operation:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday - 1pm to 5pm
Closed Sunday and Monday

We are located on Highway 45 on the west side of town, next to Trail's Inn tavern. If you come in on I-24, follow Highway 45 through town (it makes a zig-zag) and after the 4 lane narrows down to 2 lanes, we are .4 mile on the left. You'll see the tavern; turn left just past it.

Volunteer: Volunteers are always welcome at Project Hope. They can walk the dogs, pet the cats, clean, feed, mow, do laundry, answer the phone, and write thank-you letters. Volunteers also assist with transporting animals to and from the veterinarian and PETsMART. They also participate with fundraising and working on our newsletters. Please call for details on how to become a volunteer.
